Veteran Bollywood actor Ranjeet, also known as Gopal Bedi, made a name for himself in the entertainment industry with his powerful acting chops. Considered as one of the most popular villains in Hindi cinema, he carved a niche for himself with his character portrayals. He portrayed characters who force themselves on defenseless women, which led to the audience misunderstanding him in real life. In a recent interview, while talking about the same he recalled how Madhuri Dixit had refused to film the scene with him during the shoot of Prem Pratigya.(1989).
For those who don’t know, Dixit essayed the role of a poor man’s daughter in the film, which also starred Mithun Chakraborty. In this particular scene, the veteran throws her character on a handcart while molesting her. Opening up about the same, the 82-year-old actor told the news agency ANI that Madhuri started crying and refused to do the scene with him. He explained that he was unaware of the situation until an art director told him about it. Quoted by the Free Press Journal, Ranjeet added, “I used to have fun on the sets, like when I would tell my co-stars, 'darling thoda udhar muh karo mai change kar leta hu'. The Housefull 2 actor shared that he used to share a good bond with the fight masters and technicians. Explaining that he wasn’t a status lover, he recalled what happened that day. He said, “There was a handcart. Madhuri's father in the movie was poor and used to pull a handcart. The molestation scene was on the handcart. I was waiting for her but nobody told me what was happening. Ultimately, she agreed. Veeru Devgan was the fight master. He said that we will keep rolling the camera ‘beech mein camera cut nahi hona chahiye’.”
Ranjeet further explained that he would never use force on the heroines while they shot molestation sequences, which was why they were fond of him. He used to encourage them to “pull my hair, scratch my face with their nails and all that.” He made sure they felt safe and not uncomfortable. He concluded by stating, “I used to give commentary to them. And not using my force and all that. Molestation is a part of our job. The villain is not bad. With every heroine, it was compulsory.”
The veteran actor has worked in over 500 films. He continues to entertain the audience with his versatile performances.
